Good Morning Capital Region!
Well, we started our race off this morning at 0800 with the sun climbing in the sky and several wispy clouds above. The temperature started off chilly, but I think that it was about 55-60 degrees Fahrenheit for most of the race. Though there were 61 runners signed up, we had 49 show, with 47 finishers. Of the runners, we had all four branches of the American military present - Air Force, Army, Marines, and Navy. Of the international forces, we had runners from Portugal, Italy, Jordan, Australia, Mongolia, and of course, Afghanistan. It was quite an impressive diversity.
I am attaching a few pictures that my NCOIC (Non-commissioned Officer in Charge), MSgt Fields took while he was volunteering as medical support for the race. One is the start which is in front of our compound on the Afghan Air Force (AAF) Kabul Wing, with one of our MRAP vehicles holding the flag at the starting line. I am the one on the far right. In the post-race pictures - in one I am with the AAF Kabul Wing Lab OIC (Officer in Charge), Major Gulumsha, with an AAF soldier in the background. In another, it is just me and my AAF flight medic instructor, NCO Malik. In the last picture, MSgt Fields took a picture of all of the AAF soldiers who ran the race in front of the AAF Kabul Wing Clinic ambulance.
It was a great event and we all thank you very much for your sponsorship. The t-shirts are fantastic and everyone was very pleased by the fact that they say "Kabul" on them. Thank you so much for the extra attention to make that happen.
